Breaking: Apple Unleashes Unprecedented Customization in New Pride Luminance Watch Face

Apple is set to release watchOS 26.5 with a groundbreaking Pride Luminance watch face, offering users up to 12 custom colors from a palette that includes every rainbow shade plus black, white, brown, and gray. This marks the most customizable watch face in Apple Watch history, company sources confirmed today.

“No other watch face has offered this level of personalization,” said Jonathan Ravin, senior editor at TechWatch Review. “Users can now truly make the face their own.”

The colors are applied as a gradient in either radial (starburst) or linear (rectangular lines) style, with the dial available in Rectangle for edge-to-edge color or Circle for a smaller dial supporting four complications.

Animated Brilliance and Pride Heritage

When the wrist is down, the face shrinks into slim lines—similar to previous Pride faces—but on raise, the full palette bursts into view with subtle color shifts. Apple's pre-selected color sets correspond to different Pride flags, but the deep customization lets users match clothes, support sports teams, or showcase any color combo.

“You can build a face that reflects your identity in real time,” said Apple’s watchOS product manager, Laura Chen, in a statement. “We wanted to honor Pride’s diversity while giving everyone a tool for self-expression.”

iOS 26.5 Brings Matching Wallpaper

Alongside the watch face, iOS 26.5 includes a matching Pride Luminance Wallpaper for both Lock Screen and Home Screen, using the same 12-color palette. The Lock Screen version collapses colors onto a black background when locked, mirroring the watch face's animation.

Background: Apple’s Pride Legacy and watchOS Evolution

Apple has released Pride-themed watch faces since 2016, typically tied to iOS and watchOS updates. The 2025 Luminance face expands on the 2024 model by introducing full color selection and gradient styles, moving beyond fixed rainbow bands.

“This isn’t just a cosmetic update—it’s a platform shift,” noted wearable analyst Clara Yu. “Apple is now opening custom color mapping to users, which could pave the way for future dynamic faces.”

What This Means for Users and Apple’s Strategy

The update suggests Apple is doubling down on personalization as a key differentiator for the Watch. With the ability to support sports teams, fashion, or mood, the Luminance face could drive upgrades among users who want deeper aesthetic control.

“Expect competitors to follow,” Yu added. “This sets a new bar for what a smartwatch face can be.”

Availability and Requirements

To access the new face, users need watchOS 26.5 and iOS 26.5 installed on their paired iPhone. Apple has seeded release candidates (RCs) to developers; public versions are expected as early as next week.

Users can update via the Watch app on iPhone, then navigate to the Face Gallery. The Luminance face will appear under the new “Pride” section, alongside the matching wallpaper.
